Apapa Customs hit N489 Billion in Q1 2024, outdo Previous Year’s Figure by Over 100%

The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a noteworthy milestone by generating a total revenue of N489,614,095,022.15 in the first quarter of 2024. This impressive figure represents a note increase of over one hundred per cent compared to the N212.5 billion collected during the first quarter in 2023.

Comptroller Babajide Jaiyeoba, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Apapa Command, accredited this outstanding performance to the dedication and cooperation of officers and port stakeholders. He commended their collective efforts in surpassing the revenue target and emphasized the importance of sustained compliance by both government and private sector stakeholders.

Highlighting the crucial role of the Apapa Command in achieving the NCS’s annual revenue target of N5.7 trillion in 2024, Comptroller Jaiyeoba called for continued collaboration and adherence to established guidelines and regulations. He emphasized the need to abide by the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023, government import/export prohibition lists, Common External Tariff, and Federal Government approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to facilitate revenue collection and trade facilitation.

In recognition of the commitment and diligence of officers, Comptroller Jaiyeoba expressed gratitude for their punctuality and dedication to duty. He reiterated the confidence placed in them by the Customs Management, led by CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and highlighted the benefits of compliance with customs regulations, including the recently launched Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program.

Comptroller Jaiyeoba emphasized the importance of compliance among all port users, stating that adherence to regulations not only facilitates smoother and faster cargo clearance but also comes with multiple benefits, such as fast-track processing and potential eligibility for the AEO program. He urged stakeholders to continue supporting the Apapa Command in achieving efficiency and integrity in port operations.

Looking ahead, Comptroller Jaiyeoba expressed optimism about the command’s performance in the second quarter of 2024, pledging to sustain engagement with stakeholders and enhance revenue collection efforts. He reaffirmed the commitment to fostering trade facilitation and combating smuggling activities, ensuring the continued success of the Apapa Command in contributing to national revenue generation and economic growth.
