Western Marine Command Achieves Remarkable Success in 2024 Half-Year
The Western Marine Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has made significant strides in combating smuggling, with 26 seizures totaling N843,424,000 in duty-paid value (DPV) so far this year. This represents a remarkable 611.26% increase from last year’s mid-year performance of N118,581,335.
The Western Marine Command’s 2024 anti-smuggling operations yielded significant results, with the seizure of 5,685 loaves of Cannabidiol Sativa worth N711,700,500, being a top contributor to its impressive half-year performance.
The Command has had a remarkable first half of 2024, with significant seizures that have contributed to its impressive mid-year performance. From January to June, the Command intercepted 925 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, valued at N97,448,000, surpassing the 2024 duty-paid value (DPV) target of N86,600,000 by over N10,000,000.
In addition to the rice seizures, the Command also made notable interceptions of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), further reinforcing its commitment to combating smuggling and promoting national security.
A detailed analysis of the seizures reported a significant increase in PMS seizures, with 21,500 liters confiscated between January and June 2024. This surpasses the corresponding period in 2023, when 17,865 liters were seized, valued at N14,186,000.
Comptroller Bamasiye, Customs Area Controller of the Western Marine Command, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating smuggling. He pledged to leave no stone unturned in supporting the Comptroller-General of Customs and his management team in achieving the Service’s anti-smuggling goals.
