DEPUTY COMPTROLLER FRANK ONYEKA

The Quintessential Customs Officer.

First contact with the man, Deputy Comptroller Frank Onyeka whom many have described as God sent to the exit gate of the Nigeria’s biggest/premier port complex Lagos, you might not believe that the dynamic Officer is a senior Customs Officer especially when on mufti and when he is in his garbs, it is only his epaulettes that stands him out as a top Customs Officer because of his low profile life-style and never seeking attention on Newspaper headlines.

Deputy Comptroller Frank Onyeka is in charge of the exit gate of Apapa Port Complex. Since his posting to the Command, he has been consolidateing on the Transformation agenda of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and the Customs Area Controller as he has brought his prowess and professional dexterity to reposition his unit and area of operations.

For the amiable DC, it is not in his character to make noise or beat his chest or boasting about his tremendous achievements so far made in supporting the Area Controller and the Comptroller-General of Customs in making sure that government revenue does not squirrel-out or filtered away by unscrupulous individuals but his achievements so far speaks for itself. For the command’s exit gate, it is his strive to restore the unit to its pride of place, which he has not relented.

DC Onyeka, as the head of the premier port exit gate, he is an infallible and quintessential Customs Officer with stellar and spectacular performances. As soon as he resumed at the gate office as officer in charge, he set out to build an ending administration by streaming the processes and adopting global best practices as basic standards in tandem with the Customs ACT and Guild lines. He is indeed an officer with the change mantra for saying that” No business as usual.” His performance measurements is constantine and one is not surprised that he had adopted a system of leadership and administration that is very accountable to the NCS and Stakeholders with the conviction that transparency and accountability is the cornerstone of an open society thereby helping to ensure fairness and eradicating corruption. Before he came to the gate as O/C gate, Personal Uncompandanied Barrages Declaration (PUBD) was paying zero duty but when he came he insisted that no container of personal effects should leave the gate without payment of duty. As it is now, a minimum of N3.5 million is paid for 1×40ft container, which was before now on zero duty.

DC Onyeka had no doubt that good administration is the key to achieving his dreams of building a prosperous career where the dignity of labour would always reign supreme. Since his posting to head Apapa exit gate, he came with a resounding applause for his scorecard. He did not disappoint. He seized the opportunity with a passion to masterfully outline his giant stride of proformance as quintessential Customs Officer. He is a man who aptly sets the tone for accountability and transparency as like Siamese Twins – – which you can not have one and leave the other. DC Onyeka believes that transparency and accountability, which he exhibits on his lines of duty, provided moral weight as the best model to mankind.

Reeling out the achievements of DC Onyeka is unending as his feats stand ahead of his pack due to his prudent administrative styles, which has strengthened the revenue of the NCS in its transformation agenda.

With many of his achievements while in Onne Customs Command, he was honoured with an Award of Excellence for working assiduously with the CAC in improving the Command’s Revenue profile.

We, at BossNet Communications, Publisher of Maritime Star Magazine/Maritime Online, acknowledge all these feats, and we say, “LET THE APPLAUSE CONTINUE.”
