Western Marine Command Seizes 1,021 Loaves of Cannabis in Major Bust
The Nigeria Customs Service’s Western Marine Customs Command has made a significant seizure in its ongoing anti-smuggling efforts. Recently, the Command successfully intercepted 1,021 loaves of Cannabis sativa, packed in 15 sacks, along the Ajido waterways in the Yekeme axis.
The seizure was announced by the CAC Paul Bamisaiye of the Command and made available to the press by the Command Public Relations Officer Superintendent of Customs, Magaji Mailafiya, the seized consignment was examined at the Command headquarters and found to have a total weight of 538 kg with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N107,205,000.00. The consignment was intercepted by their officers along the Ajido waterways in the Yekeme axis of the Command.
The consignment was intercepted at the waterfront as the suspected smugglers attempted to offload the illicit items from their boat onto land. However, upon spotting the vigilant Marine officers, the suspects hastily abandoned the items and escaped into the surroundings.
Despite the challenging environment, the Patrol Team demonstrated exceptional professionalism and bravery. They successfully secured the abandoned sacks, carefully transferred them to the official patrol boats, and transported the seized contraband to the Western Marine Command Headquarters for further investigation and analysis.
