NEW ERA AT TINCAN PORT AS COMPTROLLER FO ONYEKA ASSUMES COMMAND
Comptroller FO Onyeka’s appointment follows the promotion of Comptroller DA Nnadi mni to Assistant Comptroller General. Comptroller Onyeka boasts an impressive academic background, holding a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration. He has also received various certifications from training programs within and outside Nigeria.
Comptroller Onyeka has consistently demonstrated exceptional intellect, courage, and dedication to his duties. His commitment to upholding the core mandates of the Comptroller General of Customs is evident in his work, both in the field and in operational leadership roles. He effectively balances his duties with adherence to global best practices, showcasing his professional expertise and drive to improve customs operations.
Comptroller Frank O. Onyeka’s impressive career trajectory led him to his current deployment as the Customs Area Controller at Tincan Island Port Area Command. Previously, he served as the officer in charge of the Premier Port Gate, where he collaborated with the Area Controller to generate massive revenues for the Command.
His tenure at Onne Port Area Command’s Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) gate showcased his exceptional intelligence, driving transformational innovations, substantial revenue collection, and notable seizures. His outstanding performance earned him the prestigious Valued Addition Officer Award, created by Assistant Comptroller General B. Imam.
Comptroller Onyeka’s passion for trade facilitation, revenue generation, and anti-smuggling efforts is evident in his work. With his new role at Tincan Island Port, he brings years of experience and training to uphold the Comptroller General of Customs’ policy thrust of Collaboration, Consolidation, and Innovation.
Comptroller FO Onyeka, in his inaugural address, reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs and his management team. He also pledged to emulate the exemplary leadership qualities of his predecessor, Comptroller DA Nnadi mni, particularly in revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and infrastructural development.
Comptroller Onyeka emphasized the importance of collaboration, stressing that “no man has a monopoly of knowledge.” He urged all stakeholders, including security agencies, freight forwarders, terminal operators, and the media, to work together to sustain the legacy of the outgoing ACG.
ACG Nnadi mni expressed deep gratitude to the officers and men of the Command for their relentless support and urged the officers and the various stakeholders present to give maximum cooperation to the New CAC. Going further, he said that he is delighted to inform all, that, as of today, the Command has collected a total revenue of N1,226,777,245,874.97 which represents about 86.8% of our 2024 Federal Government revenue target of N1,413,460,064,851.62.
This marks a significant improvement from N716,478,454.00 revenue generated in the previous year, 2023. Our enforcement and anti-smuggling units have worked relentlessly to combat smuggling and other criminal activities. Custom remains the lead agency at the port, conducting numerous 100% physical examinations in collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure strict adherence to trade regulations. Notably, the Duty Paid Value (DPV) of goods seized at the Tincan Island Port has risen from N1.051, 617,767.00 in 2023 to N4, 505,995,975.00 in 2024, reflecting a remarkable increase of N3, 454,378,208.00.
The ACG, on his departure from the Area Command, promised that his office at the headquarters would be open to all who may need his advice on matters that would move the Command and Service forward.
