SEME CUSTOMS AREA COMMAND RAKES IN N7.1 BILLION REVENUE IN 2024
The Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service has announced its impressive 2024 revenue generation, totaling ₦7,166,576,397.49, representing a 21.7% increase from the previous year. This achievement is a testament to the leadership of Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Kayode Kolade, who had pledged to build upon the successes of his predecessors.
Comptroller Kayode Kolade highlighted the Seme Area Command’s impressive trade facilitation activities, which enabled the export of over 306,000 metric tonnes of produce worth ₦77.8 billion in the 2024 fiscal year.
In addition to its trade facilitation efforts, the Command has also made significant strides in anti-smuggling operations. The enforcement unit’s meticulous surveillance of land borders led to 921 interceptions, including 37 tanker loads of PMS, 19 trailer loads of foreign rice, 24 used cars, 1,934 parcels of hard drugs and narcotics.
The Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the items amount to one billion, eight hundred and ninety- five million, one hundred and seventy-five thousand, nine hundred and forty two naira (N1,895,175,942.00) for the period under review.
Earlier in the briefing the Comptroller engaged in the decorations of newly promoted officers. A total of 135 officers, comprising both senior and junior rankings, were promoted.
This promotion is part of a nationwide exercise approved by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, which saw the elevation of 4,291 senior officers. Additionally, the Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, approved the promotion of 1,419 junior officers.
A total of 89 senior officers and 44 junior officers were promoted within its ranks.
