Maritime Journalists to Celebrate Customs Boss Adeniyi, on February 13
The Nigerian Maritime Journalists’ award dinner honoring Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State, by 6pm. This event, a first in the Nigerian maritime industry, aims to recognize Adeniyi’s excellent performance in areas such as revenue collection, anti-smuggling, trade facilitation, and staff welfare.
The organizers, The Nigerian Maritime Journalists, comprising various maritime journalists’ associations, are now set to host the award dinner to honour the Customs CG as the “ICONIC MARITIME PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR 2024. Initially planned for January 16, 2025, the event was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
The Nigerian maritime media practitioners have unanimously decided to honor the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, for his outstanding performance. This decision was made by all maritime journalists covering the maritime beat, representing various media platforms, including print, electronic, and online media.
The maritime journalists, led by different beat associations, such as Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), League of Maritime Editors (LOME), and Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON), Maritime Journalists Association of Nigeria (MAJAN), Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN), Online Maritime Media Association of Nigeria (OMMAN) and Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP), among others.
They believe that CG Adeniyi has registered sterling and excellent performance since assumption of office as the Customs CGC.
These accomplishments include significant revenue growth, successful efforts to combat smuggling, trade facilitation, national security, staff welfare, inter-agency collaboration, improving customs infrastructure, leveraging technology to modernize customs operations, demonstrating commitment to social responsibility, among others.
The organizers also appreciate Adeniyi’s unwavering support for the media, particularly the maritime media, showcasing his dedication to transparency and collaboration.
This honour is also to set an agenda for other agencies of government and their appointees that the ever vibrant and dogged maritime media are watching them.
The award ceremony will attract special guests from sister-agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders, Customs brokers, as well as other maritime stakeholders.
