Courtesy Visit by MWUN President-General to Western Port Authority Police Command
The President-General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, recently led a delegation of the Union’s national executives on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Western Port Authority Police Command, Apapa, Lagos, CP Olanrewaju Olanrewaju Ishola, psc(+), mnips.
The visit was undertaken with the objective of strengthening the strategic relationship between the Maritime Workers Union and the Port Authority Police Command. It also served as a platform to reinforce sustainable collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other key stakeholders, particularly in the areas of security, safety, and operational efficiency across the nation’s seaports.
Comrade Abi—an Izon-born maritime professional from Delta State, accomplished sailor, and seasoned administrator—commended the Command for its unwavering commitment to port security. He particularly lauded the efforts of the Western Port Police Command in maintaining law and order within the port environment, thereby ensuring relative peace and operational stability. He further affirmed the Union’s readiness to maintain an open and cooperative relationship with the Command to facilitate smooth and effective port operations.
In his remarks, CP Ishola expressed his appreciation for the visit and acknowledged the MWUN’s consistent support and responsible leadership. He emphasized that the peace currently enjoyed at the ports would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of MWUN and other critical stakeholders. The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s high regard for the Union and its leadership.
The visit concluded with a constructive interactive session between the two parties, during which both sides explored avenues for deepening their partnership. The session reaffirmed their mutual commitment to fostering a safer, more secure, and more productive maritime sector in Nigeria.
