Customs, FIRS, National Single Window Secretariat Deepen Collaboration on Trade Facilitation Project
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is strengthening its efforts to advance the Federal Government’s trade reform agenda through enhanced collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the National Single Window (NSW) Secretariat.
On Tuesday, 12 August 2025, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), hosted the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and the Director of the NSW Project, Mr. Tola Fakolade, at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.
The high-level meeting reviewed the progress of the Nigerian National Single Window Project and mapped out final steps toward its operational launch, targeted for the first quarter of 2026.
In his remarks, CGC Adeniyi described the National Single Window as a “transformational initiative that will reshape Nigeria’s trade landscape,” emphasizing that its success hinges on robust inter-agency collaboration.
“This project is not just about technology—it is about building a modern trade ecosystem where government agencies operate in unison to serve the trading community with greater efficiency, transparency, and speed,” he said.
Launched in April 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian National Single Window is a unified digital platform designed to connect all trade-related government agencies. Once fully operational, the system is expected to significantly reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, shorten cargo clearance times, cut operational costs, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in global trade.
Dr. Zacch Adedeji reaffirmed FIRS’ strong commitment to the initiative, stating that the agency would “collaborate fully to ensure the system delivers on its promise of improved compliance, revenue growth, and ease of doing business.”
Also speaking, Mr. Fakolade urged all participating agencies to meet their integration timelines to ensure the Q1 2026 launch remains on schedule.
The meeting concluded with a joint pledge from the NCS, FIRS, and NSW Secretariat to deepen technical integration, maintain open lines of communication, and keep stakeholders regularly informed.
Once operational, the platform is expected to drive increased revenue generation, boost job creation, strengthen compliance, and deliver tangible benefits to businesses, government institutions, and consumers alike.
