Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Appoints New Secretary-General and Branch Secretaries

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of Comrade Prince Francis Bunu Abi has officially confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantive Secretary-General of the Union. His confirmation, along with the appointments of two others as General Secretaries, was announced during a joint session of the National Administrative Committee (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Union.

Comrade Oniha had served in an acting capacity for six months prior to his confirmation. He rose through the ranks from Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) to Deputy Secretary-General (DSG), where he was in charge of Training & Research, Education, and Media. His appointment follows the retirement of his predecessor, Comrade Felix Akingboye.

A native of Edo State, Comrade Oniha holds a Master’s degree from the prestigious University of Ibadan. Before joining MWUN, he briefly worked as a classroom teacher and has since built a notable career within the Union.

Also confirmed were Comrade Olangwe Fred Dagogo, formerly the Organising Secretary of the Union, now appointed General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch. Comrade Dagogo is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Port Harcourt and is widely respected for his diligent service in his previous role.
Comrade Joseph Ekwere, confirmed as General Secretary of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Branch of the Union. He previously served as Computer Secretary under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch. Comrade Ekwere holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos and has served the Union with distinction.

The Union has extended its congratulations to the newly confirmed officers, acknowledging their dedication and long-standing service.
