MWUN WELCOMES COURTESY VISIT FROM CALSSAN

On Tuesday, August 19th, the Courier Staff Association of Nigeria (CALSSAN), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN).

The CALSSAN delegation—comprising Deputy President Comrade Emeka Cyril Ekeh, State Vice Chairman Comrade Akor Jonah, and State Secretary Comrade Inih Ekwere—was warmly received by MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, and members of the union’s national executive at their secretariat in Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.

The visit, described as significant by the CALSSAN team, was primarily to congratulate Comrade Bunu on his recent election as President-General of MWUN. The delegation expressed their desire to build a strong and strategic partnership between both unions, citing shared values and a common vision. They also acknowledged that Comrade Bunu’s dynamic leadership could serve as a catalyst for deeper collaboration and mutual growth.

In his remarks, Comrade Bunu thanked CALSSAN for the visit and pledged full cooperation with the association. He emphasised that unity and solidarity among labour unions are essential for advancing workers’ interests and achieving meaningful results across the sector.

A seasoned maritime professional and experienced administrator, Comrade Bunu reassured the CALSSAN team that MWUN remains open to partnership and collaboration, committed to ensuring mutual benefits and prioritising workers’ welfare.
He further highlighted the importance of consistently promoting workers’ rights and well-being, stating that a healthy and motivated workforce is key to any organisation’s success—including in Nigeria.

The MWUN President-General also expressed appreciation to CALSSAN for their support and solidarity towards his leadership and administration in such a short period.
