Comptroller AM Alkali Assumes Leadership at Customs Area II Command, Port Harcourt
Comptroller Aliyu M. Alkali has officially taken over as the 26th Customs Area Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Area II Command, Port Harcourt. The leadership transition took place on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as he succeeded Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) Mohammed Babandede, who was recently promoted.
The handover ceremony, held at the Command, was attended by notable figures including the Zonal Coordinator of Zone C, ACG Kamal Mohammed (mni), Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku of Port Harcourt I Command, as well as heads of security and regulatory bodies, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders. The event was marked by a cordial and celebratory atmosphere.
In his farewell address, outgoing ACG Babandede expressed gratitude to the officers of the Command, partner agencies, port associations, and management at Onne Port for their unwavering support during his tenure. He highlighted the strong collaboration that led to significant accomplishments and urged continued support for his successor.
ACG Kamal Mohammed praised Babandede for his exemplary leadership, describing his time in office as one defined by commitment, vision, and impact. He wished him further success in his new role and encouraged Comptroller Alkali to build on the solid achievements of his predecessor while bringing in new strategies and innovations to advance the Command’s goals.
In his acceptance speech, Comptroller Alkali expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR. He reaffirmed his dedication to upholding trade compliance, facilitating lawful trade, generating revenue, and ensuring public safety. He called for collective efforts from stakeholders to support national development and pledged to maintain and build upon the progress achieved under ACG Babandede’s leadership.
