Comptroller Joe Anani Takes Over PTML Command, Commits to Advancing Trade Facilitation and Anti-Smuggling Efforts
Following a recent redeployment exercise by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller Joe Anani has officially assumed duty as the new Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command. He pledged to sustain and build upon the strong legacy left by his predecessor.
At a brief handover ceremony, Comptroller Anani took over from Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Tenny Mankini Daniyan. He praised ACG Daniyan’s leadership and the achievements recorded under his tenure, describing the command and its stakeholders as highly structured and effective.
Comptroller Anani highlighted key accomplishments, particularly the implementation of the Unified Customs Management System, popularly known as B’Odogwu. He called this a significant milestone in revenue generation and trade facilitation, stressing the need to improve upon it further.
He urged Customs officers, personnel from other government agencies, and private sector stakeholders to work collaboratively with him to uphold PTML’s high standards. Emphasizing the importance of compliance, Anani stated that those who abide by the law will continue to enjoy the benefits of efficient port operations, while non-compliance will attract strict penalties including delays, seizures, and possible arrests.
Reaffirming the Customs Service’s zero tolerance for smuggling, he assured that enforcement would be a top priority under his watch.
Anani also committed to open communication, stating his office would remain accessible both physically and virtually to all stakeholders. He encouraged open dialogue and the sharing of relevant information that could support the success of the command.
“I sincerely thank God and the Comptroller-General for this opportunity. I recognize that achieving success here is a collective effort,” Anani said. “Let us work together to maintain PTML as a model port that exemplifies security, efficiency, and smooth trade facilitation.”
He also mentioned his intention to enhance the speed of cargo clearance, referencing the command’s impressive two-hour release time for compliant RoRo consignments. He noted that with better compliance and improved systems, this time could be reduced even further.
Various stakeholders welcomed Comptroller Anani and commended ACG Daniyan for his exemplary leadership. They praised his role in the successful rollout of the B’Odogwu system across multiple commands and noted his contributions to enhanced trade facilitation, revenue generation, and stakeholder engagement.
Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, President of the African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON), applauded Daniyan’s track record, urging him to carry his dedication into his new role within the NCS management team.
Chief Charles Nwarrienne, Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (PTML Chapter), described Daniyan as an exceptional officer, stating he deserved a symbolic “certificate of project completion” for successfully guiding B’Odogwu from its inception to full consolidation.
