Comptroller Atuluku Assumes Leadership at Nigeria Customs Area 1 Command, Port Harcourt
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Area 1 Command in Port Harcourt has officially undergone a leadership transition, with Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku taking over from Comptroller YM Hashim, who has been redeployed to the Import and Export Unit at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja.
The handover ceremony, which drew the presence of key stakeholders, marked a significant milestone in Comptroller Atuluku’s career. Expressing gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and his management team, she described the appointment as a call to render selfless and quality service. She emphasized her commitment to upholding transparency, teamwork, and stakeholder engagement, promising to foster open dialogue, enhance trade facilitation, and boost compliance.
Acknowledging the accomplishments of her predecessor, Atuluku praised Comptroller Hashim for his outstanding revenue performance—₦187 billion generated between January and August 2025—and pledged to maintain the momentum. She also urged officers to continue their support, stressing that collective effort remains crucial to the command’s success.
Comptroller Hashim, in his farewell address, reflected on the journey, highlighting the command’s steady revenue growth. From a collection of ₦11.8 billion in October 2023, the command ended that year with ₦116.5 billion, surpassing the 2022 figure by 26.18%. In 2024, revenue surged further to over ₦200 billion, marking a 72.41% increase from the previous year.
In 2025, with a target of ₦216 billion, the command had already collected over ₦187 billion by August—just ₦29 billion short of the goal, with four months to go. This represents a 32% growth compared to the same period in 2024.
Hashim noted that the command’s achievements were the result of teamwork, dedication, and stakeholder cooperation. His tenure received glowing tributes from customs officers and trade associations like ANLCA and NAGAFF, who commended his leadership in revenue generation and anti-smuggling efforts.
