Area 1 Customs Command: Comptroller Atuluku Praises CGC Adeniyi as Command Generates ₦24.7 Billion in One Month
The Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Port Harcourt, led by Comptroller Salamatu Atuluku, recorded a total revenue of ₦24.7 billion in September 2025.
During a press briefing at the Area 1 Customs Command office in Port Harcourt on October 7, 2025, Comptroller Atuluku also revealed that the Command seized concealed illegal drugs at Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
Comptroller Atuluku highlighted two major achievements: the impressive revenue collection for September 2025 and the interception of controlled drugs at the airport.
“This is my first full month as Customs Area Controller for this Command, and I am proud to announce our outstanding revenue performance for September,” she stated.
In September 2025, the Command generated ₦24.7 billion, nearly doubling the ₦12.5 billion collected in the same period of 2024 — an increase of ₦12.2 billion or 97.6%.
“This outstanding result reflects the dedication, hard work, and renewed commitment of our officers, driven by a vision of efficiency, transparency, and innovation,” she said.
Looking at the third quarter of 2025, the Command amassed ₦72 billion, compared to ₦48.3 billion in Q3 2024 — a rise of ₦23.7 billion or 49%, indicating steady progress in revenue and operations.
Comptroller Atuluku acknowledged the contributions of her predecessor, Comptroller YM Hashim, whose leadership laid the groundwork for this success.
She also credited the reforms and innovative policies of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, which have empowered Customs Commands nationwide to perform at their best.
“The management team of the Nigeria Customs Service continues to provide the tools, guidance, and motivation necessary for officers to excel. Their focus on collaboration and innovation has been a major factor in our success,” she added.
Comptroller Atuluku praised the officers and men of the Port Harcourt Area 1 Command for their dedication and teamwork, which have been vital despite daily challenges. She also thanked stakeholders and partner agencies, emphasizing that Customs operations rely on joint efforts to enhance compliance, revenue security, and national protection.
Beyond revenue, the Command remains committed to safeguarding the country from harmful and banned goods.
She reported a significant seizure on September 22, 2025, at Port Harcourt International Airport. A shipment arriving from Amsterdam via Allied Airway, declared as spare parts, was thoroughly inspected by Customs officers and the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), working with other agencies.
The examination uncovered hidden pharmaceutical products, including Tramadol injections and capsules, Paracetamol tablets, Doxepin tablets, and Phenyldam injections, all worth millions of naira in duty-paid value. These items are prohibited or controlled under Nigerian law due to their abuse potential and harmful effects.
Comptroller Atuluku commended the alertness, integrity, and professionalism of the officers involved, whose vigilance prevented the entry of these dangerous substances.
She also praised the strong collaboration with NAFDAC, NDLEA, CIU, and Customs Police, recognizing their crucial support in the operation.
The Port Harcourt Area 1 Command remains dedicated to national service through effective revenue collection, trade facilitation, and border security. With continued support from the CGC, officers, and the public, Comptroller Atuluku affirmed the Command’s commitment to raising standards and protecting the nation with pride.
