Apapa Customs, NDLEA Seize 347.5kg of Canadian Loud
In a coordinated enforcement operation, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Port Command, working alongside the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized 347.5 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a high-grade cannabis variant, concealed in an imported Toyota Sienna vehicle.
The interception came less than 24 hours after the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, received a World Customs Organisation (WCO) Certificate of Merit. The drugs were discovered in 13 bags hidden inside one of four vehicles shipped under a single import consignment.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Isah Sulaiman, disclosed that a detailed weighing revealed ten bags weighing 25kg each, one bag of 29kg, and two others weighing 34.5kg and 34kg respectively, bringing the total to 347.5kg.
This seizure represents the fourth major joint drug interception by the NCS and NDLEA at Apapa Port within two months, reinforcing Comptroller Oshoba’s resolve that all imports and exports will undergo rigorous examination before clearance.
Commenting on the development, Comptroller Oshoba cautioned that criminal attempts to smuggle prohibited substances through Apapa Port will not succeed, stressing the Command’s unwavering vigilance and commitment to national security and public safety.
The operation further reflects the strong inter-agency cooperation promoted by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD. Through sustained intelligence sharing and joint operations, NCS and NDLEA officers have continued to disrupt drug trafficking networks within Nigeria’s maritime corridors.
Comptroller Oshoba attributed the successful seizure to the strengthened collaboration between both agencies and revealed that the planned deployment of a high-capacity drive-through scanner capable of handling 200 containers per hour will significantly boost technology-driven anti-smuggling efforts.
He added that the Standard Operating Procedures of both agencies promote zero tolerance, professionalism and seamless cooperation. In accordance with established protocols, the seized 347.5kg of Canadian Loud has been officially transferred to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
The latest interception adds to the honours recently bestowed on Comptroller Oshoba and the NDLEA Apapa Special Area Commander, Mohammed Tukur, both of whom received the WCO Certificate of Merit on Monday, 26 January 2026, in Abuja during activities marking the International Customs Day celebrations in Nigeria.
The operation aligns with the 2026 International Customs Day theme, “Customs Protecting Society Through Vigilance and Commitment.”
Reaffirming the Command’s mission, the CAC stressed its continued dedication to facilitating legitimate trade while intensifying efforts to combat smuggling and protect society.
