PTML Customs Hands Over Seized Arms to NCCSALW, Records ₦44.06bn January Revenue.
Reinforcing its resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s borders, promote legitimate trade and strengthen inter-agency cooperation, the Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over seized arms and ammunition to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday, 30 January 2026, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Joe Anani, said the action reflected the Service’s zero tolerance for smuggling and its determination to ensure that only lawful trade is conducted within the country. He explained that the handover was carried out with the approval of the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, mfr.
The items transferred included five pistols of various makes, one Crossman Pump Master rifle, 132 live Remington cartridges, 51 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, four 9mm magazines, 40 rounds of assorted 9mm and blank or hollow ammunition, as well as 118 empty 9mm shells.
Comptroller Anani disclosed that the arms and ammunition were intercepted on 25 separate occasions during the examination of imported vehicles between 2022 and 2025, attributing the seizures to sustained vigilance and effective collaboration with other security agencies at the port. He stressed that the PTML Command remains a “no-go area for illegal trade in any form,” adding that the Command is fully committed to the implementation of the Revised Kyoto Convention of the World Customs Organisation, which balances trade facilitation with regulatory control.
The seized items were formally handed over to the South-West Zonal Coordinator of the NCCSALW, CP Mustapha Abiodun Alamutu (Rtd). The event was attended by PTML management, heads of sister government agencies and senior officers of the Command.
Highlighting ongoing reforms, the Area Controller noted that the Nigeria Customs Service Modernisation Project, particularly the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), also known as B’Odogwu, has significantly boosted operational efficiency at PTML. He added that the Command would soon be equipped with cargo scanners to further enhance its ability to detect concealed items such as arms and ammunition.
On revenue performance, Comptroller Anani announced that with two days remaining in January 2026, the Command had generated ₦44.06 billion, exceeding the ₦40.50 billion recorded in January 2025 by ₦3.56 billion, representing an 8.8 per cent increase. He commended compliant stakeholders for their cooperation, describing them as critical partners in the Command’s achievements.
“On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Customs, I hereby formally hand over these seizures to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons for appropriate action,” he said.
