Finance Minister Chairs 60th Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board
Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, recently chaired the 60th Regular Meeting of Nigeria Customs Service Board.
At the newly commissioned Nigeria Customs Service headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, convened the 60th regular board meeting – a historic first since the building’s inauguration by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023. The Minister commended the board for upholding the quarterly meeting schedule, emphasizing its significance in maintaining robust corporate governance standards.
Minister Wale Edun emphasized the importance of regular meetings and financial performance updates for government agencies striving to achieve objectives that benefit citizens. He further underscored the significance of board meetings, saying, ”Board meetings are a crucial aspect of corporate governance, which is essential for running an organization efficiently, providing strategic direction, and ensuring effective management to align with government policies and objectives”.
Minister Wale Edun praised the exemplary leadership of CGC Adeniyi, highlighting the Nigeria Customs Service Board’s commitment to integrity, transparency, and excellence. He commended the board’s guiding principles, which prioritize achieving commendable objectives and upholding the highest standards in managing the NCS. The Minister also emphasized the value of inter-ministerial collaboration and public-private partnerships, noting that the NCS Board comprises representatives from the Ministries of Trade and Investment, Foreign Affairs, and Finance, as well as members of the organized private sector, fostering a unified approach to driving progress.
This congregation, according to Edun, “Ensures that critical national issues are thoroughly discussed and implemented in a timely manner”.
While filing questions about his feelings, he was the first Minister and NCSB Chairman to have chaired a meeting at the newly built NCS Corporate Headquarters, the Hon. Minister took the opportunity to commend the Customs Service on the achievement.
He said, “I congratulate the Nigeria Customs Service on this achievement of not just building a new edifice, but actually moving into it, making use of it, and keeping it very neat and tidy, and I pray for the success of all those who work at the new facility.
