TCIP Customs Hands Over Seized Drugs to NDLEA
The Tin-Can Customs Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently made a huge bust, seizing three containers loaded with 684 packets of Cannabis Indica weighing 341.025kg, valued at a whopping N682,050,000. These illicit drugs were smuggled into the country on vessels operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
Comptroller Dera Nnadi, the Customs Area Controller of Tin-Can Customs Command, has reaffirmed his commitment to combating illegal importation and trafficking of illicit substances. In a media address, he emphasized that the command is utilizing all available resources and strategies, in collaboration with other security agencies and regulatory bodies, to prevent the influx of prohibited goods into the country.
He recently announced a major seizure of illicit drugs. On August 2, 2024, customs examination revealed 77 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 38.5 kilograms in container MSMU 518030/2. Just six days later, on August 8, two more containers were intercepted: MSMU 602957/0, containing 532 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 265.025 kilograms, and FSCU 927461/3, with 75 packages weighing 37.5 kilograms. These three containers held a total of 684 packets of Cannabis Indica, valued at N682 million. Notably, the first container had already been declared, and the agent and importer are being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Comptroller Nnadi has handed over seized drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), reinforcing the interagency collaboration and memorandum of understanding (MOU) between NDLEA and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS). He expressed gratitude to General Bouba Marwa, CEO of NDLEA, for the agency’s ongoing support and also acknowledged the international partner agencies for their cooperation.
