ONNE ANLCA POISED FOR GREATER CHALLENGES
No matter how materially rich one is, it’s the abstract or intellectual content that makes the final appeal. The saying ‘a new broom sweeps cleaner than the old one’ holds true, as evident in the newly sworn Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA), Onne chapter, Hon. Chief Ifeanyi Isikaku, who has poised to reposition the chapter for greater challenges.
Hon. Chief Ifeanyi Isikaku, MD/CEO of Godify Group of Companies, spoke to our reporter in his impressive office in Port Harcourt, stating that a new era has dawned for ANLCA (Onne). Quoting him, ‘The clearing and forwarding business in Onne Chapter has entered a new phase.’ Since taking office, he has intensified efforts to tackle the malicious activities of rogue agents and purge the chapter of unscrupulous elements.
The Chairman further disclosed that his foray into association politics aims to reposition and transform the Onne Chapter’s image through vigorous efforts, fostering transparent relationships between agents, customs, terminal operators, and other stakeholders. He emphasized, “Agents shouldn’t bear the brunt of the business. My regime will prioritize their welfare, providing health schemes, building hospitals, and recreation and guest houses where they can rest when unable to go home after work.”
“To encourage agents to excel, we’ll establish an orientation scheme featuring regular training and retraining on new government policies. As customs brokers, our role is crucial in helping the government generate revenue and assisting Customs in combating the importation of illicit drugs into the country,” he stated.
In advising newcomers to the clearing and forwarding industry, he shared, ‘My journey began as a photocopy boy, and I’ve come a long way. The key is patience and perseverance – after all, Rome wasn’t built in a day.’
When asked about the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Isikaku praised him, saying: ‘He is performing excellently as a career officer, transforming the NCS into one of the best by putting round pegs in round holes’
