DRUG WAR: PTML Customs Seizes Cocaine Worth ₦29.4bn
The Port and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has uncovered and seized a cocaine consignment valued at ₦29.4 billion.
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Joe Anani, said the discovery was made after terminal staff identified suspicious items in one of 39 empty export-designated containers.
The 20-foot container, with number GCNU1332851, had arrived from Freetown, Sierra Leone, and was flagged on October 7, 2025, during a routine disinfection check. The terminal operator immediately notified customs authorities.
A joint inspection by personnel from the NDLEA, DSS, Police Anti-Bomb Squad, and other security agencies revealed 50 packages, each containing 20 parcels. Rapid tests confirmed the contents to be cocaine, weighing a total of 1,000 kilograms (one tonne).
Comptroller Anani described the haul as one of the most unusual cocaine seizures in the NCS’s history, noting that no suspect has been arrested because the container had neither a listed consignee nor an identifiable owner.
He praised the vigilance of the terminal operator and the strong cooperation among security agencies. According to him, the incident underscores the PTML Command’s dedication to keeping Nigeria’s ports secure and free of illegal shipments.
The confiscated drugs will be transferred to the NDLEA for further investigation.
