Customs FOU Owerri Transfers 77,500g of Cannabis and Other Drugs to NDLEA
The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service in Owerri has handed over 151 packets of Cannabis Sativa weighing 77,500 grams and 15 packets of Canadian Loud weighing 8,600 grams to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Speaking at the Unit’s headquarters in Owerri, Comptroller Bishir A. Balogun explained that the interception resulted from strong intelligence, vigilance, and the commitment of the Unit’s officers. He emphasized that the operation highlights the joint efforts of security agencies to protect the nation’s safety, health, and economy.
Balogun reaffirmed that under the leadership of Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), the Service remains committed to its core functions—revenue generation, combating smuggling, and facilitating legitimate trade. He added that Customs also plays a vital role in national security by intercepting harmful and illegal substances that pose dangers to society.
According to him, the seized drugs were expertly concealed to avoid detection but were uncovered through credible intelligence and the diligence of officers during routine patrols. He stressed that the handover of the drugs to the NDLEA demonstrates the strong cooperation between security agencies, noting that the NDLEA is the authority responsible for drug-related matters.
Balogun expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General and the Service’s management for their continued support and praised the officers of FOU Zone C for their professionalism and dedication. He also acknowledged the cooperation of other agencies, particularly the NDLEA, in the collective effort to build a safer country.
He urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement through useful information, reaffirming Customs’ commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders and communities from the impact of illegal trade and drug trafficking.
Comptroller Balogun then formally handed over the seized 151 wraps of Cannabis Sativa and 15 wraps of Canadian Loud to the NDLEA for further investigation and necessary action.
