NDLEA uncover 1,187kg of Canadian Loud concealed in cars at Lagos port
Barely five days after the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) discovered 25.5kg of cocaine on a Brazilian-flagged vessel, both agencies have intercepted another illicit consignment—this time, a shipment of *Canadian Loud*, a high-grade strain of cannabis hidden inside imported vehicles.
Acting on reliable intelligence from the NDLEA, the two agencies uncovered 2,374 packets of cannabis packed into 55 bags and concealed in a 1x20ft container (No. FCIU 6369526) carrying two vehicles. The total weight of the drugs amounts to 1,187kg.
Confirming the operation, the Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, praised the strong cooperation between the NCS and the NDLEA, reaffirming the Service’s firm stance against smuggling.
According to a statement released in Abuja on Thursday, the joint examination led to the discovery, and the NDLEA has since taken custody of the seized drugs. Each sachet was reportedly packaged in 500-gram portions.
Oshoba stated, “A few days ago, I emphasized that no cargo will leave this port without proper scrutiny. Our collaboration as government agencies will continue to keep us ahead of criminal networks.”
The statement issued by the Customs Public Relations Officer, Apapa Port Command, CSC Isah Sulaiman, quoted Oshoba as saying, “Regardless of the volume of trade we handle, we will never compromise national security and the economy for any transaction. While we remain committed to collecting maximum revenue for government, our vigilant officers are always on alert.”
He further warned that any trader—importer, exporter, freight forwarder, or licensed customs agent—who attempts to undermine their resolve during the Yuletide season and beyond will face severe legal consequences.
Oshoba added that investigations are ongoing and assured that all individuals involved in the trafficking attempt will be prosecuted.
