NCS Celebrates DCG Dera Nnadi’s Retirement at 60
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has honoured the retirement of one of its senior officers, Dera Nnadi, bringing to a close a remarkable career marked by dedicated service and contributions to the institution’s growth.
The colourful event took place on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja. It drew members of the NCS management team, senior officers, family members, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the retiring officer’s impactful years of service. The occasion was particularly significant as it coincided with DCG Nnadi’s 60th birthday, making it both a retirement celebration and a milestone birthday event.
Leading the tributes, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, described Nnadi as an outstanding officer whose professionalism, discipline, and dedication greatly strengthened the operational efficiency and values of the Service.
He noted that the ceremony was not only a celebration of a successful career but also a moment to recognise the sacrifices of officers who commit their lives to protecting the nation’s economic interests and securing its borders. According to him, Nnadi’s service reflected the core principles of the NCS, particularly in leadership, revenue generation, and trade facilitation.
“Today is a moment of celebration and reflection, and an opportunity to thank Almighty God for sustaining our colleague throughout his years of service,” the CGC stated.
Adeniyi also spoke about his personal and professional relationship with the retiree, noting that their bond extends beyond official duties to family connections. He expressed confidence that Nnadi still has the energy and experience to continue contributing to national development, especially in academic and professional spheres.
Other members of the Service’s management team also paid glowing tributes, praising the retired DCG’s integrity, leadership, and commitment to mentoring younger officers. Many who worked under him described him as a dependable leader who consistently guided and encouraged subordinates while helping to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Service.
In his response, Nnadi expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General, the management team, and officers and men of the Service for their support and cooperation throughout his career. He described his time in the NCS as a rewarding journey filled with learning, growth, and service to the nation.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of awards, gift items, and commemorative photographs in honour of the distinguished officer.
