CGC Adeniyi Hosts Surprise Celebration for International Women’s Day 2026
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, marked International Women’s Day 2026 with a surprise appreciation event in honour of female officers, celebrating their invaluable contributions to the growth of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Held at the Customs House in Maitama, the event drew a large turnout of officers across various ranks, alongside members of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association. Each attendee received a rose in recognition of their resilience, dedication, and service to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Adeniyi explained that the initiative was intentionally designed to move away from routine ceremonies and instead spotlight women whose efforts often go unnoticed. He noted that recognition should not be limited to convenience or calendar events, but should genuinely reflect appreciation.
While acknowledging the structured nature of the Service as a paramilitary institution, he emphasized the importance of taking time to celebrate the role of women within the organisation. He described female officers as vital to Customs operations, commending their professionalism and unwavering commitment across different formations nationwide.
He further stated that the initiative aimed to honour outstanding women while promoting a culture that values hard work and dedication regardless of gender.
In her remarks, the National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association, Kikelomo Adeniyi, described the event as a meaningful opportunity to recognise the strength and impact of women within the Customs community. She praised the Comptroller-General for his continued support for women, noting that his leadership has fostered inclusiveness and created opportunities for growth.
She highlighted that women play active roles in the Service’s achievements, not merely supportive ones, and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to welfare and empowerment initiatives. According to her, investing in women remains essential for building stronger institutions and communities.
