Miko Takes Over PTML, Promises Integrity, Trade Efficiency
Deputy Comptroller Nura Ibrahim Miko has officially assumed office as the Acting Controller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command, pledging to lead with integrity, due process, and efficient trade facilitation.
Speaking during his assumption of duty, Miko emphasized that his administration would focus on collaboration, transparency, and results-driven leadership. He stated that his approach would prioritize teamwork and adherence to established procedures while ensuring smoother trade operations at the Command.
Miko took over from Comptroller Joseph Anani, who disclosed during the handover ceremony that the Command generated more than ₦178 billion in revenue before his redeployment, highlighting PTML’s status as one of the Service’s top-performing commands.
Addressing officers, stakeholders, and partner agencies during his maiden meeting, Miko assured them of an inclusive leadership style.
“I am here to work with you, not just to lead you,” he stated, adding that integrity would remain non-negotiable while collaboration would drive the Command’s success.
He described PTML as a disciplined and well-structured Command and pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor to sustain operational excellence.
The Acting Controller also called for continued cooperation among sister agencies and stakeholders, stressing that effective port operations depend on synergy, mutual respect, and shared commitment toward trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security.
Miko further assured stakeholders that the Command would remain open to constructive engagement while guaranteeing transparency, accessibility, and equal opportunities for compliant traders and operators.
He expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him, noting that the CGC’s policy direction anchored on Innovation, Consolidation, and Collaboration would continue to guide PTML operations.
In his remarks, outgoing Controller Joseph Anani, now redeployed to Tin Can Island Command, described his eight-month stay at PTML as a rewarding experience.
Anani acknowledged the foundational work of his predecessor in introducing the Unified Customs Management System, B’Odogwu, and addressing its initial challenges. According to him, his administration built on that progress with the support of officers, stakeholders, and sister agencies.
He also highlighted key operational achievements recorded during his tenure, including the implementation of one-hour clearance for compliant vehicle imports and notable enforcement successes involving the interception and transfer of illicit drugs, arms, and ammunition to relevant government agencies.
Anani added that beyond revenue and enforcement, the Command succeeded in fostering a motivated and performance-driven workforce committed to higher compliance standards.
