AMATO Lauds CGC Adeniyi for Securing Release of Detained Trucks
The Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) has lauded the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his prompt intervention that resulted in the release of trucks belonging to its members, which had been detained at the Zarmak Bonded Terminal, Mile 2, Lagos.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the association’s National Secretary-General, Comrade Bala Sani, AMATO described the CGC’s action as timely and compassionate, saying it reflects the Nigeria Customs Service’s renewed commitment to trade facilitation and productive stakeholder engagement.
The association explained that the prolonged detention of the trucks had disrupted business activities, inflicted financial losses on transport operators, and threatened the operations of truck owners providing vital haulage services within the nation’s port system.
AMATO expressed gratitude to the Customs boss, noting that his directive for the immediate release of the vehicles brought much-needed relief to affected members and reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to improving the ease of doing business through collaboration with industry stakeholders.
The association also commended its National President, Chief Remi Ogungbemi, for his steadfast leadership and sustained advocacy, which it said played a crucial role in resolving the issue. It praised his commitment to protecting the interests of maritime truck owners and fostering constructive engagement between operators and government agencies.
AMATO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and other regulatory bodies. It also pledged continued support for policies aimed at enhancing efficiency, safety, and growth in the maritime transport sector, while encouraging members to comply with all port and bonded terminal regulations.
The association concluded by thanking both CGC Adeniyi and Chief Ogungbemi for their roles in resolving the matter, expressing optimism that the development would restore normal haulage operations around the Mile 2 corridor and boost confidence among truck operators in the Lagos port environment.
