MWUN CONDEMNS COMRADE AJAERO’S ABDUCTION

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), led by Comrade (Prince) Dr. Adewale Adeyanju, fnli, HFCPSP, strongly condemns the abduction of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, by Nigerian security forces at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. This incident occurred while Ajaero was travelling to attend a workers’ congress hosted by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain, where he was an invited guest.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, was invited to represent Nigerian workers at the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the United Kingdom, where he would address a global gathering of workers.

It is a matter of public record that Comrade Joe Ajaero is not a fugitive in any jurisdiction worldwide. Consequently, his arrest without a warrant and subsequent detention are absolutely condemnable. This horrific act by state agents constitutes an open violation of his fundamental human rights. Moreover, holding him incommunicado since Monday morning, with his whereabouts unknown, only adds to the gravity of this injustice.

Comrade Ajaero’s status as a Nigerian citizen with no criminal record or outstanding warrants makes his abduction a clear case of targeted harassment. This act was designed to humiliate and intimidate the Labour President, violating his fundamental rights and freedoms. Such actions are completely unjustifiable under Nigerian law and undermine the principles of justice, equality, and human dignity.

However, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), frowns over this ugly incident on the Congress’ President, whose rights have been extremely violated by the security agents of the state; hence, MWUN is calling for the immediate unconditional release of Ajaero, the NLC President.

In view of the foregoing, the Union will have no other option if he’s not released but to comply with directives that may come from the Nigeria Labour Congress on this matter.
