Ogun I Customs Seize Rolls-Royce, over 4,400 Bags of Rice, and ₦1.4 Billion Worth of Drugs in Major Crackdown
The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported significant anti-smuggling successes, including the confiscation of a luxury Rolls-Royce, large quantities of illicit drugs, and thousands of bags of foreign rice, with a duty-paid value exceeding ₦1.4 billion.
Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, revealed these achievements during a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Idiroko on Thursday. He stated that over the past six weeks, intelligence-led operations resulted in the seizure of:
4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice (each weighing 50kg), totaling over seven truckloads.
50 sacks and 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa (marijuana).
105 used pneumatic tires.
21 bales and 3 sacks of used clothing.
Three foreign-used vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce valued in the billions of naira.
6,400 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
“These seizures, with a Duty Paid Value of ₦1,401,531,923.95, represent a major setback to smugglers and a significant gain for our economy and security,” Otunla said.
Regarding revenue, the Comptroller disclosed that the Command generated ₦45,054,191 in July 2025, marking a 27.47% increase over the ₦35,327,852 collected in July 2024. He attributed this rise to intensified compliance efforts, better border monitoring, and strengthened stakeholder engagement.
Otunla also announced that the confiscated drugs would be officially handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, for further action.
“This partnership underscores our shared commitment to protecting public health, enhancing national security, and safeguarding the future of our youth from the harmful effects of narcotics,” he emphasized.
The Customs boss commended his officers, fellow security agencies, and border community informants for their vital contributions, while issuing a stern warning to smugglers and their accomplices.
“No matter how sophisticated your methods, our officers will keep disrupting your schemes. We remain vigilant and determined to enforce the law fully,” he declared.
He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to the vision of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, based on “consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.”
Otunla closed by thanking the media for their ongoing support in raising public awareness against smuggling.
During the drug handover ceremony, NDLEA Area Commander Ekundayo Williams praised the effective collaboration between NDLEA and NCS, calling it highly productive.
He noted that this latest seizure is the third in two months, highlighting the strong joint commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking locally and nationally.
“This seizure is a major blow to the economy, national security, and the well-being of our future leaders,” Williams stated. “We will continue this effort until those involved in this destructive trade transition to legitimate business.”
