ACG Frank Onyeka Leaves Tin Can with ₦1.6tn Revenue Record.
The Nigeria Customs Service has bid farewell to one of its distinguished officers as Assistant Comptroller-General Frank Onyeka officially relinquished leadership of the Tin Can Island Port Command following his promotion to the rank of ACG.
During a formal handover ceremony held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Tin Can Island Port Command in Lagos, Onyeka described his time at the Command as one of the most fulfilling periods of his career in the Service.
Outstanding Revenue Performance
Under his leadership, the Command achieved remarkable revenue growth, generating ₦1.609 trillion in the 2025 fiscal year, exceeding its target of ₦1.524 trillion. The strong performance continued into 2026, with the Command recording ₦401.01 billion in revenue within the first quarter.
Onyeka credited the achievement to disciplined operations, intelligence-driven strategies, improved compliance measures, stakeholder cooperation, and the effective deployment of modern trade facilitation systems that balanced enforcement with legitimate trade promotion.
Major Gains in Anti-Smuggling Operations
Beyond revenue generation, the Command recorded significant successes in combating smuggling. Several illicit drugs and prohibited items with a combined street value of over ₦35 billion were intercepted during his tenure, reinforcing the Service’s commitment to protecting national security and tackling transnational organised crime.
Enhanced Stakeholder Engagement
The outgoing Controller also prioritised collaboration with freight forwarders, terminal operators, shipping firms, importers, exporters, and other port stakeholders. This engagement contributed to improved operational efficiency, quicker dispute resolution, and stronger compliance within the port environment.
Focus on Capacity Building
Human capacity development remained a key focus throughout his administration. The Command invested heavily in training, workshops, and professional development programmes aimed at improving officers’ competence and morale.
Onyeka further acknowledged the contributions of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), whose welfare and support initiatives positively impacted officers and their families.
Appreciation and Transition
He expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and support, while also commending the officers and management team of the Command for their collective dedication and commitment.
As he handed over to Comptroller Joe Anani, Onyeka urged officers and stakeholders to extend the same level of cooperation to the new leadership to ensure continued success.
“Tin Can Island Port Command will always remain close to my heart,” he said, assuring the Command of his continued support whenever needed.
With his elevation to Assistant Comptroller-General, Onyeka leaves behind a legacy of impressive achievements and exemplary leadership that will continue to inspire the Nigeria Customs Service.
