Anani Prioritises Compliance at Tincan Port
The Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command, Comptroller Joseph Anani, has initiated a comprehensive reform programme aimed at enhancing compliance, facilitating trade, and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders.
Since taking over leadership of the Command, Anani has undertaken a series of strategic engagements, facility inspections, and courtesy visits designed to improve operational efficiency, build stakeholder trust, and foster stronger collaboration among agencies operating within the port.
As part of his introductory tour, he inspected Customs formations and terminal facilities across the Command to assess infrastructure, evaluate officers’ working conditions, and identify areas requiring improvement to boost productivity and service delivery.
During his first major meeting with stakeholders, Anani engaged representatives of major freight forwarding associations, including ANLCA, NAGAFF, NCMDLCA, and APFLON. He underscored the importance of compliance, professionalism, and cooperation in ensuring smooth and efficient port operations.
Presenting his vision for the Command, the Controller stressed strict adherence to Customs regulations and the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. He cautioned against unethical practices that could compromise the Service’s integrity and called for improved standards across all operational areas.
According to him, the Command is committed to fostering a culture built on compliance, partnership, and service excellence, with all stakeholders expected to contribute to making Tincan Port a benchmark for trade facilitation and operational effectiveness.
Anani also held discussions with terminal operators, shipping lines, importers, exporters, and other industry players, assuring them of an open and transparent administration that supports legitimate business activities and economic growth. He encouraged terminal operators to modernise facilities and increase capacity to attract more vessel traffic and enhance the port’s competitiveness.
To strengthen security and enforcement efforts, the Controller visited the Port Authority Police Command, where he met with the Commissioner of Police to reinforce cooperation in areas such as port security, safety, and intelligence exchange.
He also paid a courtesy visit to the NDLEA, where both agencies explored ways to deepen collaboration in tackling drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes. Discussions centred on intelligence-led operations, coordinated enforcement strategies, and improved information sharing to combat illicit activities within the port environment.
Expressing gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs for the opportunity to serve, Anani pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessors while advancing the Service’s core responsibilities.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the Comptroller-General’s agenda of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation, aimed at improving trade facilitation, revenue collection, stakeholder relations, and national security.
Observers believe these early initiatives could position the Tincan Island Port Command for greater discipline, efficiency, and competitiveness in line with the broader objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service and its partner agencies.
