PEBEC Ranks Customs Top in Trade Facilitation.
Director-General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Zahrah Audu, announced that the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) achieved full compliance with all prescribed standards while demonstrating significant improvements in the speed, efficiency, and responsiveness of its trade-related services. The achievement placed the Service among the top-performing Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) assessed.
According to Audu, the NCS distinguished itself by meeting every compliance requirement and significantly enhancing the timeliness and effectiveness of its trade facilitation processes, reflecting a more transparent, efficient, and business-friendly operating environment.
She attributed the performance to the Service’s sustained commitment to operational excellence and improved stakeholder experience, noting that it aligns with the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business reforms.
Audu further revealed that 98 percent of the 69 MDAs evaluated under the Business Facilitation Act now comply with the required service delivery standards, describing the result as clear evidence that the ongoing reforms are strengthening public service delivery across government institutions.
The recognition follows a series of reforms introduced by the NCS to modernise customs administration, including the B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System, the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, and the Advance Ruling System. These initiatives have streamlined import and export processes, reduced cargo clearance time, and enhanced transparency and efficiency in customs operations.
