CP Ojajuni Hails Ogun I Customs on Border Security
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, has praised the Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for its effective border security measures, trade facilitation efforts, and strong collaboration with other security agencies along the Idiroko border.
The commendation came during his official visit to the Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, at the Command headquarters in Idiroko.
CP Ojajuni described the security situation in the border community as commendable, noting that since assuming office, no major crime incidents had been reported from the strategic commercial corridor. He attributed the peaceful environment to the seamless cooperation among security agencies under the leadership of Deputy Comptroller Afeni.
He also applauded the Controller’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration, which has strengthened coordinated border management, enhanced public confidence, and improved security across the corridor. According to the Police Commissioner, the well-coordinated security framework at the Idiroko-Igolo border reflects professionalism, effective leadership, and mutual trust among security operatives. He added that the reduction of unnecessary checkpoints has improved the movement of legitimate goods and travelers without compromising security.
In his response, Deputy Comptroller Afeni thanked the Commissioner for the visit and acknowledged the support of all security agencies operating within the Command. He reaffirmed the Nigeria Customs Service’s commitment to revenue generation, trade facilitation, anti-smuggling operations, border security, and national economic growth through strategic partnerships.
Afeni highlighted the recent joint “Show of Force” exercise conducted by Nigerian and Beninese security agencies as evidence of the strong bilateral commitment to combating cross-border crimes and securing the shared border.
He further disclosed that the Command had significantly reduced multiple security checkpoints inherited along the Idiroko corridor through the Joint Border Security Committee and sustained collaboration with sister agencies. The initiative, he said, has eased traffic bottlenecks, improved operational efficiency, facilitated legitimate trade, and enhanced the movement of businesses and travelers.
The Controller noted that these reforms align with the Nigeria Customs Service’s modernization agenda, which recently earned the Service a 100 percent compliance rating in the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business assessment.
The visit ended with the exchange of commemorative plaques between both agency heads, reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration in strengthening border security, promoting legitimate cross-border trade, and unlocking the economic potential of the Idiroko border corridor.
