NPA, SIFAX Applaud Powerful Pen NUJ Media Chapel for Balanced Reporting in Maritime Sector
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has commended the Powerful Pen Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Maritime Journalists’ Association of Nigeria (MAJAN) for their dedication to objective reporting and their efforts in helping to ease traffic congestion in Apapa, Lagos, thereby enhancing the ease of doing business.
During the Powerful Pen NUJ Chapel’s Press Week held at MAJAN Secretariat in Apapa, with the theme “The Role of Journalism in Nation Building and National Security,” Apapa Port Complex Manager, Adebowale Ibrahim Lawal—represented by Hadisa Usman Shaibu, Principal Manager, Corporate Affairs at the Lagos Port Complex—praised the journalists for their resilience and commitment.
Shaibu remarked on the remarkable transformation of Apapa, comparing it to European cities, and attributed this improvement partly to the consistent reportage and advocacy by the journalists. “Your persistence and dedication have truly made a difference,” she noted.
She extended warm regards from the port management, emphasizing the critical role journalists play in shaping the maritime sector’s narrative. “Your continued commitment to accurate and constructive journalism contributes significantly to national development,” she said.
Shaibu also urged journalists to maintain professionalism and objectivity, encouraging them to build strong ties with the public to further enhance their credibility and impact.
“We acknowledge your efforts and appreciate the recognition you’ve given the NPA. We remain committed to fulfilling our responsibilities effectively,” she added.
Similarly, SIFAX Group’s PR representative, Mr. Olatunde Adewola, who participated in the press week health walk, lauded the chapel for its accurate and responsible journalism. He emphasized the essential role of the media in national development and encouraged continuous learning through training and workshops to sharpen reporting skills.
Earlier, MAJAN President, Jerry Aguigbo, in his welcome address, emphasized that journalism is a key pillar in preventing societal divisions along religious, ethnic, or tribal lines. He highlighted that responsible reporting protects national security, informs the public about threats, and holds authorities accountable.
Aguigbo also underscored the power of investigative journalism in exposing corruption and rights abuses, and its role in fighting misinformation, fostering national unity, and supporting initiatives that drive economic and social progress.
The Powerful Pen Media Chapel’s Press Week featured various engaging activities, including a health walk, speeches, poetry recitations, dance and singing competitions, and was wrapped up with a feast enjoyed by all attendees.
