Customs Hits ₦77.3bn Revenue Record, Seizes ₦1.4bn Worth of Smuggled Goods.
The Area II Command of the Nigeria Customs Service in Onne has achieved its highest monthly revenue collection ever, generating more than ₦77.3 billion in April 2026.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Command headquarters in Onne, Port Harcourt, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Aliyu Mohammed Alkali, said the achievement underscores the Command’s dedication to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement of government fiscal policies.
Alkali disclosed that between January and April 2026, the Command realised a total revenue of ₦258,204,841,355.66, describing it as the highest revenue performance in the Command’s history.
He credited the accomplishment to the commitment of officers and improved compliance among stakeholders.
The Command also recorded notable anti-smuggling breakthroughs during the period. In February 2026, operatives intercepted a 40-foot container falsely declared as plumbing materials, with a Duty Paid Value of ₦185.22 million. Investigations revealed that smugglers had tampered with the original container identification number and substituted it with a fake one in a bid to evade duty payment and illegally exit the port.
Also in February, the Command seized nine 40-foot containers loaded with bales of fabrics, carpentry and building tools, LED lights, solar fans, garments, and other goods. The seized items had a combined Duty Paid Value of ₦1.251 billion.
Alkali explained that the importers breached Sections 231, 233, and 246 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 through falsification of documents, alteration of container markings and numbers, and attempted smuggling.
He added that the containers and their contents were detained and officially converted to seizures in line with the provisions of the law.
